My Favorite Moments of 2016

I know right now it’s trendy to say that 2016 was a terrible year. So, I’m not going to say that (but also because it quite simply isn’t true). Overall, the past twelve months have been the biggest adventure of my life, and with adventure, of course, comes its fair share of ups and downs. I have grown more as an individual and as a photographer than any year before. I made mistakes. I suffered at the hands of other’s mistakes, as well as my own. I made so many new friends and saw so many new places along the way. I love doing what I do so much (as cliché as that sounds). I get to travel with some of my best friends and take photos and I get paid for it. That doesn’t make any sense, but I’ll […]

Against The Current In Our Bones North America Tou...

It’s not often I get to do tours outside of the metal world, so I was super excited to be able to hit the road with Against The Current for their North America tour this November and December. Beyond finally getting out of smelly vans into a bus for this run, it was incredible working with them and their all star crew for a few weeks in some of my favorite venues. My creativity was definitely sparked on this run having, what felt like, so many different things to shoot on this tour. I’m so thankful to Against The Current for having me out and I can’t wait to hopefully hit the road with them again soon!

Vanna All Hell North America Tour 2016

Some of the best times I’ve had this year have been on the road with Vanna. Between getting to know them when I was on tour with Phinehas in February to spending all of Warped Tour with them to coming along for their fall headliner, I have definitely spent more time with them than anyone else in 2016. I love these guys to death and couldn’t be happier to call them some of my best friends. I loved getting to see them in so many different environments this year, from opening to playing festivals to headlining. I love getting to shoot them every night, which is the main reason I got the gig to begin with anyway. I watched them every night when I was with Phinehas earlier this year and ended up shooting them most nights because they are […]

Silent Planet Legends of the Fall Tour 2016

It’s been really cool being with Silent Planet from what seems like the beginning (even thought they were rocking long before I came along). I started touring with them right after their first record came out, almost two years ago, when they were playing to sometimes 10 kids a night. Now fast-forward to this year and I’ve been able to be a part of their two biggest tours ever: Warped Tour, where they had the best crowds on their stage every day, and then the Legends of the Fall Tour with August Burns Red, playing some of the best clubs in America. I always love spending as much time with these rockers as possible. So, I loved going out with them one last time this year. Not to pat myself on the back, but I think these are my best […]

Vans Warped Tour 2016

Doing Vans Warped Tour has been one of my biggest goals since I started touring over a year and a half ago. (Side note: I still cannot believe it has been that long.) I grew up idolizing this tour, thinking it was the be-all-end-all for touring musicians. If you were on Warped Tour then you had clearly made it. While that is not the case, it is still a tour I am very grateful and proud to have had a part in. The second time I ever picked up a camera was at Warped Tour a few years back. The first time I ever talked to anyone about being a photographer was at Warped Tour with my now best bud, Matt Ginzel, who coincidentally was out with The New Low for the second half of the tour this year. The […]

The Ongoing Concept Summer Headliner 2016

Summer tours are brutal when everything goes as planned. It seems like most people who tour for a living would rather tour in the summer than the winter, because the chances of getting sick in the winter are exceedingly high. I’m the exact opposite though. I hate the heat. So, when your van doesn’t have AC for a whole tour that tends to pose a problem. This tour with The Ongoing Concept was a fun one. I love these guys, so getting to traipse across the US with them again was a blast – except for trying to sleep every night in the van with no AC. I think I currently have more mosquito bites than shows played on this tour because of sleeping with the windows down every night in Walmart parking lots. The things we do for rock […]

Gideon in Studio May 2016

I get to see the touring aspect of the music industry so often that it almost feels like I’m desensitized to the wonders of that world, but until this year I had never been a part of the recording side of things. Back in January I was able to go into the studio with Silent Planet for a few days while they were recording at Will Putney’s studio in Belleville, New Jersey, which is about an hour outside of New York City. I got a second opportunity the first week of May when I finished up a tour with Wolves At The Gate about an hour away from Putney’s. Gideon was in the studio recording and so I convinced them to let me come and hang out for a week. This time around Putney was in the studio while I […]

Wolves At The Gate April Headliner 2016

Touring with new people is always an adventure. I got to know the guys in Wolves At The Gate last year when I took promos for them while we were both in Germany for a festival. So, they weren’t all together new friends, but I had never toured with them up until this point. I was stoked to finally get the opportunity to hit the road with them, especially on their first headliner in a while and with their new record coming out later this year. I love the four guys in this band and am incredibly honored to have been with them for a couple weeks. This was such a fun tour having already known the Dayseeker boys from a tour I did with Silent Planet last year which they were also on and then getting to know Household […]

Corey Kilgannon ‘Let a Lover Drown You’...

Getting to tour with your best friends is pretty much the dream in my opinion. That’s exactly what touring with Corey Kilgannon and the Penny & Sparrow crew is like. Corey is one of my oldest friends and Andy and Kyle from (P&S) and their wives have quickly become some of my best friends as well. Last year I got small taste of touring with these guys when Corey and I did a few shows with them in the fall. So, I was incredibly stoked to hit the road with them for an extended period of time, especially with it being their album release tour. This tour was a blast and a great change of pace. As much as I love doing heavier tours, it was nice to hear some much more relaxed music for a few weeks. Touring with […]

Silent Planet March Beartooth Tour 2016

Sometimes life doesn’t work out quite the way you thought it would. Actually, most of the time that seems to be the case. You just have to learn to roll with the punches. In March I thought I was going to be on one tour – in fact I was a part of it for one whole day. Then as things happened the band I was with found themselves no longer on the tour after just one show and I was left scrounging for something for another to hop on. That’s when my brothers in Silent Planet rallied around me and picked me up a day later on their way from Knoxville, Tenn. to Bryant, Ark, as I was stuck in Nashville. I rode along with the boys for the last week and a half of their tour with Beartooth, […]
